The Contemporary Collection is a personal selection of photographs from my archive, chosen primarily for the images themselves rather than simply the names in front of the camera.
Many reflect the style of live photography I've always been particularly drawn to: fleeting moments that have more in common with portraiture than conventional concert photography. An expression, a gesture or a particular fall of light can make a photograph feel almost posed, despite being captured in the middle of a live performance.
These are some of the photographs I've most wanted to bring out of the archive and into print, including established names alongside artists whose significance to me lies simply in the strength of the photograph.
Each print is individually produced by me on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Baryta 315gsm, a museum-grade archival paper made from 100% cotton. Prints are supplied unframed and accompanied by a serial-numbered Certificate of Authenticity, corresponding to the matching number recorded on the reverse of the print, together with detailed care instructions to help preserve the work for generations. Every print is hand numbered and signed personally by me.
The combination of a 100% cotton base and high-gloss baryta coating gives the finished print exceptional depth and tonal richness, with an elegant sheen that enhances detail and contrast without the intrusive glare associated with traditional glossy photographic papers.
Only 50 prints will be produced in each edition, with two additional Artist’s Proofs retained separately.
Once an edition has sold out, the photograph will never be reproduced in the same format, preserving the rarity, integrity and provenance of every print released from the archive.
