Limited Editions Launch SALE

I'm pleased to announce the launch of Limited Edition Prints on my website, with the first photographs now available across two collections.

I've built up a substantial archive over many years of photographing live music, and for some time I've wanted to make a carefully chosen selection of those photographs available as individually produced prints.

Choosing them has been a very personal process. These aren't simply photographs of the biggest names in my archive. I've selected images that I think work particularly well as photographs in their own right: a moment, an expression, the light, the composition, or sometimes simply a frame that I've always particularly liked.

Looking through the photographs I've selected, there's also a definitive style running through them. I've always been drawn to images that feel more like portraits than conventional live music photography. They may have been taken in the middle of a performance, with all the movement and unpredictability that involves, but there's often a stillness to the finished photograph. Some could almost have been carefully posed, when in reality they were moments that lasted no more than a fraction of a second.

In many ways, I think of them as portraits made during live performance. That wasn't something I deliberately set out to impose on the collections, but it became increasingly apparent as I went through the archive and chose the photographs I wanted to print.

The result is two distinct collections.

The Contemporary Collection

The Contemporary Collection brings together some of my personal favourites from more recent years. It's a collection that will continue to evolve as I add new work and revisit the archive, with each photograph selected because I believe it deserves a life beyond the screen and works particularly well as a physical print.

Each photograph is available in a selection of paper sizes, with every edition limited in total to 50 signed and numbered prints plus two Artist Proofs.

The Legends Collection

The Legends Collection draws from another part of my archive, featuring artists whose work or persona has helped shape the history of music today.

Many of these photographs were originally made simply as part of my work as a music photographer. They weren't photographed with a future print collection in mind. I've returned to that archive to select images that I feel have stood the test of time, both as photographs and as records of the people I was fortunate enough to photograph.

The Legends editions are deliberately much smaller, with just 15 signed and numbered prints in total available of each.

Once all of the numbered prints in an edition have been produced, that edition is permanently closed. The photograph will never be reproduced again in that same format again.

From my archive to the finished print

I wanted these editions to retain a direct connection between the original photograph and the collector who eventually owns the print, so every print is personally produced by me rather than being handled through a print-on-demand or fulfilment service.

Each print is hand numbered and signed by me, and supplied with a matching numbered Certificate of Authenticity, providing a permanent record of its provenance and place within the edition.

For me, that's an important part of offering work as a limited edition. The limitation isn't simply a number attached to a photograph. It's a commitment that the edition has a defined size and that, once it is complete, it stays complete.
